Optimal Control of Chemical Engineering Processes Using Trigonometric Differential Evolution Algorithm

چکیده

ABSTRACT In many chemical engineering process control applications, one frequently encounters nonlinear optimal control problems. The solution of these types of problems is usually very difficult due to their highly nonlinear, multidimensional and multimodal nature. Several deterministic techniques have been proposed to solve these problems but they are computationally expensive and more likely to trap at local optimum. Evolutionary algorithms are robust and fast as compared to traditional optimization methods. This paper deals with the application and evaluation of Trigonometric Differential Evolution (TDE) algorithm, for solving nonlinear optimal control problems, encountered in chemical engineering. Also, the new TDE parameter, Mt, is tuned using a well-known test function. It is found that the tuned value of Mt is different from that reported in literature. The performance of TDE algorithm is compared with that of original Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm. Results indicate that the TDE algorithm is efficient and significantly faster than DE algorithm, particularly for the problems involving large number of control stages.
